Intu Derby SS17 Showcase

When I first told my friends I would be living on a narrowboat, the first thing they said to me was, “but where will you put all of your clothes?!”

It’s no secret that I have far too many items of clothing (but nothing to wear, am I right?!) and my secret to keeping everything on the boat is a very simple one: under-bed storage. A few weeks ago, I got a little too carried away after one mildly warm day and moved all of my winter clothes underneath my bed, and put all of my pretty tea dresses and floaty blouses back into my wardrobe.

Perhaps that was a bit keen, but you can blame Intu Derby and their Spring and Summer showcase!
Fellow blogger Emily and I were invited to the intu management centre (via Tardis, nonetheless) to have a chat about upcoming trends with super cool stylist Kimmy Rolfe.

Kimmy had put together 7 key Spring trends that I’m determined to incorporate into my wardrobe for the new season:

Get Them Frills
This gal loves a good frill or ruffle – I recently bought a gorgeous top from Zara which had huge frills on the shoulders – very Carrie Bradshaw. I’ll be teaming it up with some boyfriend jeans and heeled sandals in the summer. Look to brands like H&M, Zara and Topshop if you want to rock this trend.

Mix Up Your Sleeves
I’ve become a lover of the statement sleeve this season – particularly a bell sleeve. They can be super flattering and totally transform an outfit. I’m loving Topshop, Zara and M&S for their big sleeves – go big or go home!

Rock a Slogan Tee
I’m so happy this trend is ‘in’, because I love nothing more than lounging out in leggings and an oversized slogan tee. Plus, you can do a good deed by purchasing some of the new Fashion Targets Breast Cancer pieces from Topshop – I’m particularly loving the ‘Girls Rule’ tee!

Think in Pink
One high street retailer that have really upped their game this season is Next, and they’ve wholly embraced the pink trend. Whether you’re opting for a romantic blush pink, or a vibrant fuschia, keep it as your statement piece and tone down with neutrals.

Show Your Stripes
Stripes will always be a wardrobe staple for me – there’s just something about a good Breton stripe that oozes that English Rose vibe. Dress down with blue jeans, or dress up with some pattern-clashing florals.

Go Chic and Sheer
I don’t know if I’m brave enough to rock this trend, but there are some incredible sheer pieces in New Look at the moment. Wear them over the top of a pretty lace bralet, or even with a slogan tee underneath.

Give Good Shoulder
One trend I am already on board with is the shoulder trend – floaty bardot dresses, structured one-shoulder blouses, and quirky open-shoulder tees will be everywhere this season – look to Topshop, Zara and M&S to pick up the hottest pieces.

Intu hosted their Fashion SOS competition alongside this campaign, aimed at Derby locals who had a wardrobe crisis. The winners were styled and totally transformed with some of the seasons best pieces, and given a new boost of confidence. Read the Derby Telegraph article HERE.

Which pieces will you be adding to your wardrobe this season?
