The Cosy Club, Derby20:39
On Friday, I went along to the opening night of Derby’s coolest new joint: The Cosy Club.
Located in the old Royal Hotel, right next to the Book Café, the venue is part of a chain. I’d strolled past the Leicester Cosy Club a couple of times but never actually ventured inside – I’d had a sneaky little look at their website to eye up their menu, and so had a vague idea of what to expect.
Upon arrival, the quirky décor immediately caught my eye. Whoever decorated this place is definitely welcome to pop by and decorate the boat some time! It was very grand and elegant, with a vintage ballroom-esque vibe; staff are dressed in tea dresses and braces! We ordered G&T’s and took a seat by the window, overlooking Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.
It couldn’t have been located in a better place – round the corner from the main bar area, the building just keeps on going and going. It’s huge!
We made our way into the restaurant and took our seats.
High ceilings, chandeliers and more baroque patterns than you can shake a stick at, the restaurant room is very different to anything I’ve experienced before. The atmosphere was buzzing, packed with locals who were all clearly excited about Derby’s latest food and drink offering.
We ordered more drinks and eagerly awaited our tapas.
Beef and pork meatballs in a tomato and red wine sauce, patatas bravas with aioli and soft, warm ciabatta bread.
Salt and pepper squid with lobster mayo, goats cheese and spinach croquettes and sweet potato and basil falafels with tzatziki.
And marinated chicken wings with smoked paprika, pulled chicken and chorizo with crispy potatoes and houmous for dunking the ciabatta bread.
Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely delicious. Our three platters were shared between four and was just the right amount of food.
I’m definitely eager to go back and try out their main menu, and some of their amazing-looking cocktails! I know a few friends went for brunch on Saturday and said it was amazing, so it’s definitely a place I’ll keep on returning to.
Thanks so much to the Cosy Club for hosting us – you did such an amazing job with the place!
