Byron Hamburgers, Derby

16:24

It’s been a while since I had a good ol’ filthy burger, so when an email popped into my inbox asking me to review Byron Hamburgers’ lunch menu, of course I jumped at the chance.
Byron Hamburgers popped up in Intu, Derby last year, and ever since I swung by for some grub as part of Intu’s Healthy Eating campaign a couple of months back, I was desperate to go back for the not-so-healthy stuff.

There’s a super cool, laid-back vibe to the place, and Rob and I took our seats by the window; the ideal spot for people-watching.

I ordered the fresh lemonade, and after Rob had studied the beer list as if it were a bible, he decided on one of his Brewdog favourites.

There was a little confusion as we arrived: we were told the lunch menu isn’t actually served at the weekend. You can, however, catch the deal during the week, where you’ll grab a 3oz burger and side for just £6.50.

I personally think this is great, particularly compared to some of the other offerings in the food court, so if you find yourself stuck on your lunch break then be sure to swing by.
Now let’s get down to the good stuff.

The Byron:

A 6oz burger crafted from four cuts of ground fresh beef, cooked medium so it’s pink and juicy. Dry cure bacon, mature Cheddar, shredded iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion and Byron burger sauce, all served in a squishy bun with a whopping pickle on the side.

Must be eaten with two hands.

Courgette fries: a must-try.

Skinny French fries drizzled with Byron’s hot sauce.

Robs blue cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, red onion and mayonnaise.

Everything you can see here, you can get on the lunch menu. The burgers will be 3oz compared to the 6oz ones we’re eating, but trust me, it’ll be more than enough to keep your tummy from rumbling.

There’s a great buzz to the place, and the staff were super: shout out to Lewis, who dealt with us amazingly, particularly after a slight miscommunication with the booking.

Make sure you roll up your sleeves and get stuck in; none of this knife and fork nonsense. Be sure to try the courgette fries, and if you’ve still got room, you must have a Reece’s Peanut Butter Cup milkshake.
